9/7/08 04:50 am - [info]dresdencodak - Hob #25 - And That's That

Well, dear readers, there you have it. I always wanted to make a comic about the gestational cycle of the Earth-Fetus, and now that dream has come true. I guess I should pack up my bags and take up a job making novelty road flares or something. Email responses to this saga reveal that roughly 5-8% of you guys out there have had absolutely no idea what this story is about. This pleases me.

Vampirella ReVamp

Did this to submit to Project Rooftop's Vampirella redesign contest.
I don't really know if it's the greatest costume redesign, but I took it moreas a challenge
to myself to draw a pretty lady for a change, rather than my usual bearded weirdos! Haha!

9/7/08 02:21 am - [info]beeblism - you know what's sexy?

bad skin

overbites

big biceps

bruises

stick-and-poke tattoos

fillings

unwashed hairy armpits

scars

a missing tooth

crooked noses

this verse from a hank williams song:
well my gal's short and stubby
just as strong as she can be
and if that little old gal of mine
ever gets a hold of me
that'll be all she wrote

the way a girl can be sensitive about her imperfections

9/6/08 02:09 pm - [info]beatonna - Too Many Posts

Well! It is Feast or Famine for me as far as livejournal posts are concerned it seems. I am clogging the heck out of your computer.

But anyway, it is a day of mark so here goes another one. Today is my last day of work in Alberta, and after a total of 2 years in this province and one in British Columbia my bags are packed and I leave the West tomorrow. Alberta and BC are things to miss, the oil sands, not so much. What will you do without my constant whining? I know you are sad to see it go.

I have liked speaking now and then about the oil sands, because it seems to me that it is a hidden part of the country that few know much about, even though the cash generated from northern Alberta is insane, the impact on the country, enormous. I have yet to read an article from a journalist who tries to give a picture of Fort McMuray's oil boom without getting it wrong. Anyway, not finishing the dailies, I made a few sketches for this last day, here they are:

(god, I love Winston)

See you later, Western Canada, I didn't even get to go to Drumheller

9/6/08 03:17 pm - [info]piratecore - I am The Bat. The night is mine.

I am The Bat.

I saw this walking home from the train station after I was at the Speakeasy Illustration show in Toronto on Thursday.
The crosswalk box thing made this shadow on the ground and someone drew a most perfect Batman face on it!
I laughed so hard when I saw it. So unexpected and awesome!

9/6/08 06:42 am - [info]beatonna - Election

It is widely rumored (talked about in the news all the time that is) that Stephen Harper is going to dissolve Parliament and call an election tomorrow. Have you seen the new ads with 'Harper at home'? Come, sit down on the couch, let ol' Steve tell you what's on his mind.

Oh baby! That music is soothing. To see the rest, well hey the Conservative Party of Canada has its own Youtube channel, including one where they get to town bashing Stephane Dion (ouch). I think we are probably all better off without watching commercials from any side, but I can't help but wonder what is coming next.

I confess that I am a bit starstruck by Dion's deputy, Michael Ignatieff. The scholar politician! I vote him for: My Husband. For something that is interesting to read, check out his debate with Jack Granatstein from the Dominion Institute's 'Great Canadian Questions' project. What has the Dominion Institute been doing lately anyway? I do not know.

9/5/08 06:34 pm - [info]beatonna - I Made A Community

I totally did! Just now!

Ever since I started taking suggestions for history comics, oh boy, do I get a lot of suggestions. Most of them I don't use though, which is terrible because the stories are so great! Then they just sit in my email or get lost forever buried in livejournal comments, and that is a shame. I have wanted to do something about it for a while! So I thought I would try something out - I made a community people can join and post in about interesting historical people and events.

The name of the community is [info]history_time and I wrote up a short profile

Now, I have no idea how popular or unpopular this might be or how long it could last for, so as a precaution (at first anyway), I made it a rule that you have to mark the day you'd like to contribute, if you so wished, in the comments of the original post. I dunno, I didn't see other ways there to put a limit on posts!

Anyway, lets hope some people pick it up, I would love to see some of the things I get in emails being written out for everyone to see!

9/5/08 01:56 pm - [info]beeblism - livejournal: the right tool for the job of indolence

also: i tuned up my bike. switched saddles, pedals, rear axle. you know what? i like having tools. now that i am reunited with two boxes full of them, i find that i appreciate them more than ever. it just feels good to undergo the following process:

  1. wanting a thing to do a certain thing.
  2. figuring out a way in which you might be able to make the thing do this thing you want this thing to do.
  3. deducing that a certain other thing will be required to encourage this first thing to do the certain thing which you want this first thing to do.
  4. realizing that you indeed HAVE this other thing that is required to encourage first thing to do certain thing, right inside of a very large, heavy box.
  5. applying this third thing to first thing, and feeling The Rightness.
  6. basking in discrete knowledge that you, as a lone human being, have the power to manipulate Things, without having to get up and walk all the way to the fucking hardware store during business hours to acquire more things.
  7. feeling the deep satisfaction of making things work when they didn't used to work. with your things.

still, i probably will never graduate to proper power tools, as i am distrustful of a dependency on AC power supply. mennonite gear is more my bag. human-powered looms and lathes and shit. get the fucking oxen involved. fuck an ATV.

9/5/08 01:28 pm - [info]beeblism - in which social interactions are hard

oh god i say the awfulest, stupidest, most useless shit to people i'm trying to impress.*

*DISCLAIMER: if i'm saying really awful, stupid, accidentally pandering, unintentionally insulting, or otherwise fucking stupid nonsense to you, it means i like you lots. step away slowly.

A woman actually managed to run down the aisle during
McCain's speech and though her banner was quickly
ripped away, she had an awesome anti-war shirt at the
ready.

I want to buy her a drink tonight.

9/4/08 12:55 pm - [info]lucylou - I wanna be in pictures!

A killer cute girl named Tara made a documentary about the Center for Cartoon Studies, and I'm in it! In fact, I'm in the new trailer, a bunch. I feel a little nervous about the film, because I turn into a blithering, whining spazcake when I'm filmed. But it's cool to see, nonetheless! Watch the trailer on the link below (it's got some of my animation in it!)

Cartoon College — a documentary film by Tara Wray

ps: I have absolutely no recollection as to what my "pandora's box" whine in the trailer was all about. Look for a couple of my brilliant friends Mark and Al, who are both in the trailer. Bawll, I miss them.
